Dr Rebecca Tidy
Journalist | Researcher |
Criminal justice | Organised crime | Policing | Public health
With a portfolio that spans well-known global media outlets such as Al Jazeera, The Sun, The Telegraph, The Daily Mail and VICE News, I’ve developed a reputation for producing in-depth, thought-provoking articles that engage audiences with complex issues in a clear, accessible way.
In addition to my journalism career, I bring significant public sector research expertise, having worked on both quantitative and qualitative research projects for clients including the Metropolitan Police, Devon and Cornwall Police, Greater London Authority, Plymouth City Council, HM Prison Service, Public Health England, and the Local Government Association. This experience allows me to provide informed, evidence-based insights into the issues I cover, ensuring that my stories are rooted in rigorous research.
I have advanced quantitative analysis skills (SPSS, R, Stata), which I’ve applied in a range of settings, from academia to public sector consultancy. In my PhD, I used a quantitative methodology to examine the determinants of voter behaviour.
My academic career includes teaching policing at Plymouth University, where I worked on modules on organisational change, public sector HR, statistics and research design. I supervised dissertations and supported students on the policing, public services and business and management degree programmes. Through my work at the University of Exeter’s Q-Step Centre, I further honed my expertise in data analysis, teaching quantitative methods to students pursuing degrees in the social sciences.
In every aspect of my work – whether it’s writing articles, conducting research or teaching – I’m committed to bringing clarity and insight to the issues that matter most.
